Create delicious Homemade Cinnamon Pear Preserves to capture the sweet flavors of pears and warm cinnamon. This recipe is perfect for preserving your harvest and enjoying a taste of autumn year-round.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups ripe pears, peeled, cored, and chopped
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves

Instructions

  1. Combine chopped pears, sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves in a large pot.
  2. Stir well to coat the pears.
  3. Let the mixture sit for about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sugar begins to dissolve.
  4. Place the pot over medium-high heat and bring to a rolling boil, stirring constantly.
  5. Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer, stirring frequently, until the preserves thicken. This can take 30-45 minutes. The preserves are ready when a small amount dropped onto a chilled plate sets quickly.
  6. Remove from heat.
  7. Ladle the hot preserves into sterilized jars, leaving 1/4 inch headspace.
  8. Wipe jar rims clean and seal with lids.
  9. Process in a boiling water bath for 10 minutes (adjust for altitude if necessary).
  10. Remove jars from the water bath and let them cool completely on a towel-lined counter.
  11. Check seals by pressing the center of the lid; it should not flex.

Notes

  • Use ripe but firm pears for the best texture.
  • Adjust spices to your preference.
  • Ensure jars are properly sterilized to prevent spoilage.
  • Properly sealed preserves can be stored in a cool, dark place for up to a year.
