Make these quick, crunchy butter toffee pretzels for a perfect sweet and salty snack. This recipe uses simple ingredients for an addictive holiday treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 bag (16 ounces) small pretzel twists
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter
  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 300 degrees Fahrenheit. Line two large baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Spread the pretzels in a single layer on the prepared baking sheets. Do not overlap them.
  3. In a medium saucepan, combine the butter and brown sugar. Heat over medium heat, stirring constantly until the butter is melted and the sugar is dissolved. Bring the mixture to a boil and let it boil for exactly one minute without stirring.
  4. Remove the saucepan from the heat. Stir in the vanilla extract and baking soda quickly. The mixture will foam up.
  5. Immediately pour the hot toffee mixture evenly over the pretzels on both baking sheets. Use a spatula to spread the mixture slightly, coating the pretzels.
  6. Bake for 15 minutes. Remove the sheets from the oven and stir the pretzels gently to redistribute the coating.
  7. Return the sheets to the oven and bake for another 10 to 15 minutes, or until the coating is bubbly and lightly browned. Watch closely to prevent burning.
  8. Remove from the oven and let the pretzels cool completely on the baking sheets before breaking them apart.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, stir in 1 cup of chocolate chips or chopped nuts onto the pretzels immediately after removing them from the oven before they cool.
  • If you want a thinner coating, you can reduce the baking time slightly.
  • Store cooled pretzels in an airtight container at room temperature.
