Make the savory, buttery seasoned rice served at Texas Roadhouse using this straightforward copycat recipe.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup long-grain white rice
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon chicken bouillon base or paste (or vegetable bouillon for vegetarian option)
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Rinse the rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Drain well.
  2. In a medium saucepan, combine the rinsed rice, water, butter, chicken bouillon base, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
  3. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring once to combine the ingredients.
  4. Once boiling, immediately reduce the heat to the lowest setting, cover the saucepan tightly with a lid, and simmer for 18 minutes without lifting the lid.
  5. Remove the saucepan from the heat and let it stand, covered, for an additional 10 minutes. Do not remove the lid during this resting period.
  6. Fluff the rice gently with a fork before serving.

Notes

  • Use a high-quality chicken bouillon base for the most authentic flavor. If you need a vegetarian version, substitute vegetable bouillon base.
  • Do not lift the lid while the rice is simmering or resting; this traps the steam needed for proper cooking.
  • For extra richness, you can melt 1 teaspoon of butter over the finished rice before fluffing.
