Enjoy Jacob’s simple recipe for classic whole baked apples, filled with warm cinnamon and brown sugar. This comforting dessert is easy to prepare and perfect for a cozy evening treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 medium baking apples (like Honeycrisp or Fuji)
  • 1/4 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into 4 small pieces
  • 1/4 cup water

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Wash the apples. Use a melon baller or small spoon to carefully core the center of each apple, leaving about a 1/2 inch border at the bottom so the filling stays inside.
  3. In a small bowl, mix the brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  4. Divide the sugar mixture evenly among the four cored apples, packing it gently into the center cavity.
  5. Place one small piece of butter on top of the sugar mixture in each apple.
  6. Arrange the apples in a small baking dish.
  7. Pour the water into the bottom of the baking dish around the apples.
  8. Bake for 30 to 40 minutes, or until the apples are tender when pierced with a fork.
  9. Carefully spoon any accumulated juices from the bottom of the dish over the apples before serving warm.

Notes

  • We prefer firm apples like Honeycrisp or Granny Smith as they hold their shape well during baking.
  • If the tops start to brown too quickly, loosely tent the dish with foil.
  • For extra richness, you can add 1 tablespoon of chopped walnuts or pecans to the sugar mixture.
