Enjoy the sweet, comforting taste of homemade peach butter spread. This simple recipe lets the fresh flavor of peaches shine through, perfect for toast, pastries, or as a unique topping.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups fresh peaches, pitted and chopped
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup light brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

Instructions

  1. Combine chopped peaches, granulated sugar, brown sugar, and lemon juice in a large saucepan.
  2. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the peaches soften and release their juices, about 10-15 minutes.
  3. Reduce heat to low and simmer, stirring more frequently, until the mixture thickens to a spreadable consistency, about 45-60 minutes. Mash the peaches with a potato masher or immersion blender as it cooks, if desired, for a smoother texture.
  4. Stir in cinnamon and nutmeg during the last 10 minutes of simmering.
  5. Ladle the hot peach butter into clean jars, leaving about 1/4 inch headspace.
  6. Wipe jar rims clean, secure lids, and process in a boiling water bath for 10 minutes (adjust time for altitude).
  7. Remove jars and let them cool completely on a towel-lined counter. Check seals before storing.

Notes

  • For a smoother spread, you can blend the cooked peaches with an immersion blender before the final simmering stage.
  • Adjust sugar to your preference based on the sweetness of your peaches.
  • This spread can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 weeks if not canning.
