Method:Baking and Simmering
Cuisine:American
Diet:Vegan
Ingredients
Vegan meatballs (store-bought or homemade)
Sub rolls or hoagie buns
Marinara sauce
Vegan provolone or mozzarella cheese slices
Olive oil
Garlic powder
Dried oregano
Fresh basil for garnish
Instructions
Preheat your oven according to the vegan meatball package directions or set to 375°F (190°C).
In a saucepan, warm the marinara sauce over medium heat. Stir in the garlic powder and dried oregano. Let it simmer gently.
Arrange the vegan meatballs in a baking dish. Pour about half of the warm marinara sauce over them.
Bake the meatballs for 10-15 minutes until heated through.
Slice the sub rolls lengthwise, being careful not to cut all the way through. Brush the cut sides lightly with olive oil.
Place the rolls cut-side up on a baking sheet. Lightly toast them in the oven for 3-5 minutes until slightly crisp.
Remove the rolls. Spoon the sauced meatballs into the bottom half of each roll.
Top the meatballs generously with the vegan cheese slices.
Return the open subs to the oven and bake for another 5-7 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
Remove from the oven. Spoon any remaining warm sauce over the cheese.
Garnish with fresh basil before serving immediately.
Notes
Jacob suggests using high-quality, thick-cut sub rolls for the best texture.
You can make your own marinara sauce or use a high-quality jarred sauce.
Don’t overload the rolls; you want a good balance of bread, sauce, and meatballs.
This recipe is a perfect collaboration between planning (Amelia) and execution (Jacob).
