Ingredients
Scale
1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce
2 tablespoons fresh lime juice
1 tablespoon sesame oil
1 tablespoon grated fresh ginger
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 teaspoon brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
In a medium bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, lime juice, sesame oil, grated ginger, minced garlic, brown sugar, and black pepper until the sugar dissolves. This is your flavorful tuna marinade.
Place your tuna steaks in a shallow dish or a resealable plastic bag.
Pour the marinade over the tuna steaks, ensuring they are fully coated.
Cover the dish or seal the bag. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, but no more than 2 hours. Do not over-marinate, as the acid in the lime juice can start to ‘cook’ the fish.
Remove the tuna from the marinade and pat it dry with paper towels before cooking. Discard the remaining marinade.
Grill or sear the tuna steaks according to your preferred method.
Notes
For a spicy marinade for seared tuna, add 1/2 teaspoon of red pepper flakes to the mixture.
If you are planning to marinate overnight tuna steak marinade, reduce the lime juice by half to prevent the texture from changing too much.
This quick tuna marinade for grilling works best with steaks that are 1 to 1.5 inches thick.
