This recipe uses cottage cheese for a creamy, high protein filling in a classic baked pasta dish. It is a simple, satisfying comfort food perfect for your next family dinner.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound lean ground beef or turkey
  • 1 (24 ounce) jar of your favorite marinara sauce
  • 1 (15 ounce) container of cottage cheese (2% or full fat)
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon dried Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 9 oven-ready lasagna noodles
  • 3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. Brown the ground meat in a large skillet over medium heat. Drain off any excess grease.
  3. Stir the marinara sauce into the cooked meat. Bring the mixture to a simmer, then remove from the heat. This is your meat sauce layer.
  4. In a medium bowl, combine the cottage cheese, Parmesan cheese, egg, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Mix until everything is well combined. This is your cheese filling.
  5. Spread a thin layer of the meat sauce on the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
  6. Arrange three lasagna noodles over the sauce layer.
  7. Spread half of the cottage cheese mixture evenly over the noodles.
  8. Sprinkle one-third of the mozzarella cheese over the cottage cheese layer.
  9. Spoon half of the remaining meat sauce over the mozzarella.
  10. Place three more noodles on top of the sauce.
  11. Spread the remaining half of the cottage cheese mixture over these noodles.
  12. Sprinkle another one-third of the mozzarella cheese over the cottage cheese.
  13. Top with the remaining meat sauce.
  14. Place the final three noodles on top of the sauce.
  15. Spread the remaining mozzarella cheese over the top layer of noodles.
  16. Cover the baking dish tightly with aluminum foil.
  17. Bake for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 to 20 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the edges are browned.
  18. Let the lasagna rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • Using oven-ready noodles saves time on prep work for this easy lasagna.
  • For an extra layer of flavor, you can mix 1/4 cup of chopped fresh parsley into the cottage cheese mixture.
  • If you prefer a less thick texture, thin the meat sauce slightly with 1/4 cup of water before assembling.
