Preserve the sweet taste of summer with this easy homemade peach jam recipe. Perfect for canning or enjoying fresh, these peach preserves capture the essence of ripe peaches.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 cups chopped ripe peaches (about 3 pounds)
  • 4 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup lemon juice
  • 1 box (1.75 ounce) powdered fruit pectin

Instructions

  1. Prepare your canning jars and lids if you plan to can.
  2. In a large pot, combine chopped peaches, sugar, and lemon juice. Stir well.
  3. Let the mixture sit for about 10-15 minutes to allow the sugar to draw out the juice from the peaches.
  4. Stir in the powdered fruit pectin until fully dissolved.
  5. Bring the mixture to a rolling boil over high heat, stirring constantly.
  6. Continue to boil for 1 minute, stirring constantly.
  7. Remove from heat. Skim off any foam that forms on the surface.
  8. If canning, ladle hot jam into prepared jars, leaving 1/4 inch headspace. Wipe rims and place lids and rings on. Process according to your canner’s instructions.
  9. If not canning, let the jam cool completely, then store in airtight containers in the refrigerator for up to 3 weeks.

Notes

  • Ensure your peaches are ripe for the best flavor and natural pectin.
  • Adjust sugar to your preference, but note that sugar is crucial for preservation.
  • Sterilize jars and lids thoroughly if canning to ensure safety.
