You are making the ultimate fudgy Oreo brownies with a gorgeous, shiny, crinkly top. This recipe combines a rich, dense brownie base with whole Oreo cookies mixed throughout for an extra layer of chocolatey crunch. Jacob perfected this recipe with Amelia’s planning.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter
  • 1 1/4 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup chocolate chips (semi-sweet or dark)
  • 12-14 whole Oreo cookies, lightly crushed or kept whole

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line a 9×9 inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang on two sides for easy removal.
  2. Melt the butter in a medium saucepan over low heat. Remove from heat once melted.
  3. Whisk the granulated sugar and brown sugar into the melted butter until fully combined. This step is key for the crinkly top.
  4. Whisk in the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  5. In a separate bowl, whisk together the cocoa powder, flour, salt, and baking powder.
  6. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients. Mix until just combined; do not overmix.
  7. Fold in the chocolate chips and the Oreo cookies gently.
  8. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly.
  9. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes. The edges should look set, and a toothpick inserted near the center should come out with moist, fudgy crumbs attached, not wet batter.
  10. Let the brownies cool completely in the pan on a wire rack before lifting them out using the parchment overhang. Cut into squares.

Notes

  • For the best fudgy texture, do not overbake. Err on the side of underbaking slightly.
  • Using room temperature eggs helps create a smoother batter.
  • Chilling the brownies for at least two hours before cutting results in cleaner squares.
