Ingredients
Scale
1 pound cod or tilapia fillets
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 teaspoon paprika
1 large egg
1/2 cup cold water
Vegetable oil for frying
12 small corn or flour tortillas
For the Slaw: 3 cups shredded cabbage (green and purple mix)
1/4 cup mayonnaise
2 tablespoons fresh lime juice
1 tablespoon sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
For the Sauce: 1/2 cup sour cream or plain Greek yogurt
2 tablespoons lime juice
1 teaspoon hot sauce (optional)
Instructions
Prepare the fish coating: Mix flour, salt, pepper, and paprika in a shallow dish. In a separate bowl, whisk the egg and cold water.
Heat about 1 inch of vegetable oil in a heavy skillet over medium-high heat until it reaches 350 degrees F.
Dip each fish fillet first into the flour mixture, then into the egg wash, and finally back into the flour mixture, pressing lightly to coat.
Carefully place the coated fish into the hot oil. Fry for 3 to 4 minutes per side until golden brown and cooked through. Remove fish and place on a wire rack or paper towel-lined plate to drain.
Make the slaw: In a medium bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, lime juice, sugar, and salt. Toss the shredded cabbage into the dressing until coated.
Make the sauce: Mix sour cream (or yogurt), lime juice, and hot sauce (if using) until smooth.
Warm the tortillas according to package directions (you can warm them briefly in a dry skillet or microwave).
Assemble the tacos: Place a piece of cooked fish onto each warm tortilla. Top with a generous amount of the lime slaw and drizzle with the creamy sauce. Serve immediately.
Notes
You can grill the fish instead of frying for a lighter option. Season the fish lightly before grilling.
For extra flavor in the slaw, add a pinch of cumin.
If you prefer a thinner sauce, add a teaspoon of water to the sour cream mixture.
