Make these simple sausage pinwheels for an easy, crowd-pleasing appetizer. They use flaky dough, savory sausage, and cheesy cream cheese, resulting in a perfect party snack.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package (8 ounces) crescent roll dough
  • 1 pound bulk pork sausage
  • 1 package (8 ounces) cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375 degrees F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Cook the sausage in a skillet over medium heat until fully browned. Drain off any excess grease.
  3. In a bowl, mix the cooked sausage with the softened cream cheese until well combined. If using, stir in the shredded cheddar cheese.
  4. Unroll the crescent roll dough onto a clean surface. Gently press the seams together to form one large rectangle.
  5. Spread the sausage and cheese mixture evenly over the entire surface of the dough.
  6. Starting with a long edge, tightly roll the dough into a log. Wrap the log tightly in plastic wrap and chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes. This step helps create cleaner slices.
  7. Remove the chilled log from the plastic wrap. Slice the log into 1/2-inch thick rounds.
  8. Place the rounds cut-side up on the prepared baking sheet, leaving about 1 inch between them.
  9. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes, or until the dough is golden brown and puffed.
  10. Let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, use a seasoned sausage blend.
  • You can substitute puff pastry for crescent roll dough for a richer texture.
  • Chill the dough log for longer (up to 2 hours) for easier slicing.
  • These freeze well before baking; place frozen pinwheels on a baking sheet and add 5-10 minutes to the baking time.
