Ingredients
Scale
6 large eggs
1/2 cup whole milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon salt
12 slices thick bread (like Brioche or Texas Toast)
2 tablespoons butter, for cooking
Instructions
In a shallow dish, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt until fully combined. This is your foolproof French toast batter.
Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium heat. Add about 1/2 tablespoon of butter and let it melt until it sizzles lightly.
Dip one slice of bread into the egg mixture, letting it soak for about 15 to 20 seconds per side. Do not over-soak, or the bread will fall apart.
Place the soaked bread onto the hot skillet. Cook for 3 to 4 minutes per side, until golden brown and cooked through.
Add more butter to the skillet as needed between batches.
Remove the cooked French toast and keep warm while you cook the remaining slices.
Serve immediately with your favorite toppings.
Notes
For extra fluffy French toast, use slightly stale, thick-cut bread.
If you want a richer flavor, substitute half the milk with heavy cream.
This recipe is great for a quick breakfast in under 20 minutes.
