This is our go-to, set and forget crockpot chili recipe. It combines ground beef and turkey with pantry staples for a flavorful, easy dinner that simmers all day.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef (80/20 recommended)
  • 1 pound ground turkey
  • 1 large yellow onion, chopped
  • 1 (28 ounce) can crushed tomatoes, undrained
  • 1 (15 ounce) can tomato sauce
  • 1 (15 ounce) can kidney beans, rinsed and drained
  • 1 (15 ounce) can black beans, rinsed and drained
  • 1 (4 ounce) can diced green chilies, undrained
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons chili powder
  • 1 tablespoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, for heat)

Instructions

  1. Place the chopped onion in the bottom of your slow cooker.
  2. Add the ground beef and ground turkey directly on top of the onions. Do not brown the meat beforehand.
  3. Pour in the crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, rinsed beans, green chilies, and beef broth.
  4. Sprinkle the chili powder, cumin, oregano, salt, pepper, and cayenne pepper over the ingredients.
  5. Stir everything together gently until the spices are mixed in.
  6. Cover the slow cooker and cook on LOW for 7 to 8 hours, or on HIGH for 3 to 4 hours.
  7. Stir well before serving. Taste and adjust salt or cayenne pepper as needed.
  8. Serve with your favorite toppings.

Notes

  • For a deeper flavor, you can brown the beef and turkey before adding them to the slow cooker, draining off any excess fat first.
  • This recipe freezes well. Cool completely, then portion into freezer-safe containers for future easy meals.
  • If you prefer a thicker chili, remove the lid for the last 30 minutes of cooking time on high.
