- 2 large apples
- 1 tablespoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1 tablespoon sugar (optional)
- Preheat your oven to 200°F (95°C).
- Wash and core the apples.
- Slice the apples thinly, about 1/8 inch thick. A mandoline slicer is helpful here.
- In a small bowl, mix together the cinnamon, nutmeg, and sugar if using.
- Gently toss the apple slices with the cinnamon mixture until evenly coated.
- Arrange the apple slices in a single layer on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Make sure they don’t overlap.
- Bake for 2 to 3 hours, flipping the slices halfway through, until they are dry and slightly crisp.
- Turn off the oven and let the apple chips cool completely in the oven with the door slightly ajar.
Notes
- For a crispier chip, bake for an additional 30 minutes, watching them closely to prevent burning.
- You can adjust the amount of cinnamon and nutmeg to your preference.
- If you don’t have a mandoline, a sharp knife will work, but aim for consistent thickness.
- Store cooled apple chips in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week.
