Make this easy, make-ahead chocolate overnight oats recipe. It tastes like decadent brownie batter but uses simple, healthy ingredients, making it a perfect quick grab and go meal for busy mornings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1 tablespoon chia seeds
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/4 cup Greek yogurt (or dairy-free alternative)
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup or honey
  • 1 cup milk (dairy or non-dairy like almond milk)
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • Optional: 1 tablespoon mini chocolate chips for topping

Instructions

  1. In a jar or container with a lid, combine the rolled oats, chia seeds, and cocoa powder. Stir these dry ingredients together well.
  2. Add the Greek yogurt, maple syrup, milk, vanilla extract, and salt to the jar.
  3. Stir or shake the mixture thoroughly until all ingredients are fully combined and no dry pockets of cocoa powder remain.
  4. Seal the container and place it in the refrigerator to chill for at least 4 hours, or preferably overnight.
  5. In the morning, check the consistency. If it is too thick, add a splash more milk.
  6. Top with mini chocolate chips or your favorite toppings before serving. This is a great meal prep oatmeal option.

Notes

  • For a high protein oats version, add one scoop of your favorite chocolate protein powder along with the dry ingredients. You may need an extra splash of milk.
  • If you want a richer, more decadent flavor resembling brownie batter oats, use a high-quality Dutch-processed cocoa powder.
  • This recipe is naturally vegetarian and can easily be made vegan chocolate breakfast by using plant-based milk and ensuring your sweetener is maple syrup.
