Ingredients
Scale
4 cups Whole Milk
1 cup Heavy Cream
6 ounces Semi-sweet or Dark Chocolate, chopped
1/4 cup Granulated Sugar (adjust to taste)
1/4 teaspoon Salt
1/2 cup Bourbon
1/2 cup Bailey’s Irish Cream
Whipped cream or marshmallows for topping
Chocolate shavings for garnish
Instructions
Combine the milk, heavy cream, chopped chocolate, sugar, and salt in a medium saucepan.
Heat the mixture over medium heat, whisking constantly until the chocolate is fully melted and the mixture is smooth and just beginning to steam. Do not let it boil.
Remove the saucepan from the heat.
Stir in the bourbon and Bailey’s Irish Cream until fully combined.
Taste the hot chocolate and add more sugar if you prefer it sweeter.
Pour the boozy hot chocolate into mugs.
Top generously with whipped cream or marshmallows and garnish with chocolate shavings. Serve immediately.
Notes
For an extra rich flavor, use high-quality dark chocolate (at least 60% cacao).
You can substitute the bourbon with dark rum or peppermint schnapps for different flavor profiles.
If you want a lighter version, use half-and-half instead of heavy cream.
This recipe is perfect for setting up a small ‘Hot Chocolate Bar’ with various liquor options on the side.
