Create a restaurant-quality, incredibly creamy Homemade Alfredo Sauce fast. This no-fail recipe uses simple ingredients to give you a velvety, rich sauce perfect for pasta or topping vegetables.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese, plus more for serving
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt (or to taste)
  • 1/8 teaspoon black pepper (or to taste)

Instructions

  1. Melt the butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat.
  2. Add the minced garlic and cook for about one minute until fragrant. Do not let the garlic brown.
  3. Pour in the heavy cream. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer, stirring occasionally. Reduce the heat to low once simmering.
  4. Remove the pan from the heat. Gradually whisk in the grated Parmesan cheese until the sauce is smooth and completely melted.
  5. Stir in the salt and pepper. Taste and adjust seasoning as needed.
  6. Toss immediately with your favorite hot pasta, like fettuccine.

Notes

  • Always use freshly grated Parmesan cheese; pre-shredded cheese contains anti-caking agents that can make your sauce grainy.
  • If the sauce thickens too much while tossing with pasta, add a splash of reserved pasta cooking water to thin it to your desired consistency.
  • This sauce is best made right before serving.
