Make these easy baked jalapeño poppers for a perfect spicy appetizer. We stuff fresh jalapeños with a creamy cheddar and cream cheese mixture, then bake until golden.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 large fresh jalapeño peppers
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 4 ounces sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Prepare the jalapeños: Slice each pepper in half lengthwise. Use a small spoon or knife to carefully scoop out all seeds and white membranes. This step controls the heat level.
  3. Make the filling: In a medium bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, shredded cheddar cheese, garlic powder, onion powder, and salt. Mix until completely smooth and combined.
  4. Stuff the peppers: Spoon the cheese mixture evenly into each jalapeño half, mounding it slightly.
  5. Prepare the topping: In a small bowl, mix the panko breadcrumbs with the melted butter until the crumbs are coated.
  6. Top the poppers: Sprinkle the buttered panko mixture evenly over the cheese filling in each pepper half.
  7. Bake: Place the stuffed peppers on the prepared baking sheet. Bake for 18 to 20 minutes, or until the peppers are tender and the topping is golden brown and bubbly.
  8. Serve immediately while hot.

Notes

  • Wear gloves when handling the jalapeños to avoid skin irritation from the capsaicin.
  • For a bacon wrapped poppers version, wrap half a strip of bacon around each stuffed pepper before baking.
  • If you prefer a milder flavor, soak the halved peppers in ice water for 15 minutes before stuffing.
