Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 large head cauliflower, cut into bite-sized florets
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)
  • 1/4 cup rice vinegar
  • 1/4 cup honey or maple syrup
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon grated fresh ginger
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon sriracha (adjust to your spice preference)
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • Cooked rice, for serving
  • Sesame seeds and sliced green onions, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, toss the cauliflower florets with the olive oil.
  3. In a separate small bowl, whisk together the flour, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and cornstarch.
  4. Add the dry mixture to the cauliflower and toss until all florets are lightly coated.
  5. Spread the coated cauliflower in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet.
  6. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden and slightly crisp.
  7. While the cauliflower bakes, prepare the sauce. In a small saucepan, combine the water, soy sauce, rice vinegar, honey (or maple syrup), brown sugar, sesame oil, ginger, minced garlic, sriracha, and red pepper flakes.
  8. Bring the sauce to a simmer over medium heat. Cook for 3 to 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens slightly. Remove from heat.
  9. Once the cauliflower is baked, transfer it to a large bowl. Pour the prepared sauce over the hot cauliflower and toss gently until every piece is coated.
  10. Serve immediately over cooked rice. Garnish with sesame seeds and sliced green onions.

Notes

  • For extra crispiness, you can lightly spray the coated cauliflower with cooking spray before the first bake.
  • This recipe works well as a main dish or a flavorful side dish.
  • Taste your sauce before tossing; adjust the sweetness or heat level to match your preference.
