This Baked Chicken Parmesan Casserole is the perfect, easy-to-manage project for your next family dinner. We planned this recipe for maximum flavor with minimal stress. Jacob perfected the intuitive seasoning, and I organized the steps. You will love having this comforting dish ready for everyone.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese, divided
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 24 ounces marinara sauce
  • 8 ounces fresh mozzarella cheese, sliced or shredded
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. Set up your breading station: Place flour in one shallow dish. Whisk eggs in a second dish. Combine panko breadcrumbs, 1/4 cup of the Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, and oregano in a third dish.
  3. Dredge each piece of chicken first in the flour, shaking off excess. Dip into the egg mixture. Finally, press firmly into the breadcrumb mixture to coat completely.
  4. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the breaded chicken in batches until golden brown on all sides, about 3-4 minutes per batch. The chicken does not need to be cooked through.
  5. Spread a thin layer of marinara sauce on the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
  6. Arrange the browned chicken pieces in a single layer over the sauce.
  7. Pour the remaining marinara sauce evenly over the chicken.
  8. Top with the fresh mozzarella cheese and the remaining 1/4 cup of Parmesan cheese.
  9. Bake for 18-20 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the chicken is cooked through (internal temperature reaches 165°F or 74°C).
  10. Let the casserole rest for 5 minutes before garnishing with fresh basil and serving.

Notes

  • This dish pairs wonderfully with a simple green salad or some garlic bread.
  • If you prefer, you can use pre-cooked rotisserie chicken to save time on the browning step.
  • Jacob suggests adding a pinch of red pepper flakes to the breading for a little warmth.
