Make quick, fluffy donuts in your air fryer without any yeast or messy oil. This recipe is simple and perfect for a fun baking project.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup milk (any kind)
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • For Coating: 1/2 cup powdered sugar, 1 tablespoon melted butter (for brushing)

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  2. In a separate small bowl, whisk the milk, egg, and vanilla extract until combined.
  3. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Mix gently until just combined; do not overmix. The dough will be slightly sticky.
  4. Lightly flour your work surface. Turn the dough out and gently pat it into a 1/2-inch thick circle or rectangle.
  5. Use a donut cutter or two different-sized round cutters to cut out the donut shapes. Rework the scraps gently to cut more donuts.
  6. Preheat your air fryer to 350°F (175°C). Lightly spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray.
  7. Place the donuts in the air fryer basket in a single layer, ensuring they do not touch. You will need to cook in batches.
  8. Air fry for 4 to 6 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden brown.
  9. While the donuts are warm, brush the tops lightly with melted butter.
  10. Immediately toss the buttered donuts in powdered sugar until fully coated. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • Do not overmix the dough. Overmixing develops gluten, resulting in tough donuts.
  • Adjust air fryer cooking time based on your specific model. Check them early.
  • For a cinnamon sugar coating, mix 1/4 cup granulated sugar with 1 teaspoon cinnamon and use instead of powdered sugar.
